Learning Center Chairs + Tables
Library tables and chairs should be functional, comfortable, and should complement the library’s décor.
Library Chairs
Modern library chairs range from simple, stackable chairs to those that do double-duty as works of art.
Simple seating is designed to be used at work stations such as library tables and carrels, but is also light enough to be picked up and moved. This type of hard seating can be made of different types of wood, and can come with arms or without. Hard plastic library seating is often designed to be stackable in order to conserve space, and comes in just about every color. Plastic library seating can also come with arms, or without.
Soft seating is designed to welcome readers and encourage them to sit and stay awhile. Some soft library seating resembles fixed yet cozy armchairs and sofas, while other soft seating is light and designed to be easily moved. Soft beanbag chairs and cushions can be used to develop unique seating and social areas.
Some library chairs have incorporated modern technology, and include armchairs with built-in speakers. These chairs enable users to listen to CDs and audio books in relative privacy.
Library Tables
There’s a library table for just about every function. Larger library tables are designed to seat many, and can be used for reading, studying, or collaborative work. Many of these tables are equipped with outlets that support the use of electronics. Side tables that hold books, drinks, and other materials are designed to go with seating, and come in many different sizes, shapes, materials, and colors.
