Coming Soon to California’s Graham Middle School

Graham Middle School located in Mountain View California, is home to grades 6 through 8.  Graham was designated A California Distinguished School in 2013 among 218 public middle and high schools.  This classification honors California’s schools that are considered to be superior.  Graham Middle School is undergoing a renovation project that includes a new modern library and BCI was selected to provide the new furnishings. Golisano Children’s Hospital Opening New Building

Golisano Children’s Hospital, part of the University of Rochester Medical Center, has begun moving patients into their new $145 million building.  This new building boasts 245,000 square feet and is eight stories high.  There are 52 private rooms and a 68 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). There are over 200 pediatric specialists administering care in over 40 specialty areas to 84,000 children and their families each year.  BCI’s 60/30 Steel Radius Shelving was included in this newly constructed building.

In 1984, the Academy for Academics & Arts opened its first magnet school in Huntsville, AL.  Currently, the school is undergoing an $18 million construction project moving from a historic site to a new campus.  The new facility will open its doors for the 2015-2016 school year.  BCI Modern Library Furniture was chosen to supply an array of products for the new library.

The Lowell Campus of the University of Massachusetts was founded in 1894, and was known as the Lowell Normal School, a teaching college.  It was also home to the Lowell Textile School which was founded in 1895 designed to train technicians and managers in the textile industry.   In 1975 these two schools – Lowell State and Lowell Tech, combined and became the University of Lowell.  In 1991, the Lowell campus became a part of the University of Massachusetts system.   Today, the campus is considered a national research university.  The university provides over 17,000 students bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in seven colleges.  A recent renovation at the O’Leary Library included BCI’s 60/30 Steel Radius Shelving with Steel Canopy Tops and London End Panels.

The Ann Arbor District Library system consists of the Downtown library and four branches Pittsfield, West, Traverwood, and Malletts Creek.   In 1957, Alden B. Dow of the Dow Chemical Family, designed the modern Downtown branch of the Ann Arbor District Library.  At the time, the facility was built to accommodate the growing needs of the community patrons.  A second expansion was finished in 1974 making it twice as big, and again in 1991.  The Downtown branch is home to nearly 350,000 pieces of information which includes books, magazines, audio books, Blu-Rays, DVD’s and Book Club to Go Kits and Stories to Go Kits.  BCI Modern Library Furniture was chosen for a recent upgrade by providing  the INFORM Desk System.

BCI’s Slimline Radius Shelving System at University of Texas

The University of Texas at Dallas was founded by Cecil Green, J. Erik Jonsson and Eugene McDermott in 1969.  The three founders original business started out as Geophysical Services, Inc. (GSI) which provided assistance in the search for natural resources.  During World War II, the company’s concentration turned to help create instruments to aid in finding enemy planes and submarines.  Out of GSI, in 1958 Texas Instruments Inc. began with the invention of the integrated circuit.  The need for engineers grew and the founders were compelled to search outside the state.  Having realized this deficiency, they set up the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest, which was subsequently renamed the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies (SCAS).  In 1969, the assets of SCAS were given to the State of Texas and a billed signed by then Governor Preston Smith created The University of Texas at Dallas.  Completed in 1975, the Eugene McDermott Library boasts more than 1.4 million volumes, databases, articles, journals, eMovies, eBooks and audiobooks.  There is also a Special Collections Department which includes rare books.  Recently the Eugene McDermott Library was renovated and selected BCI Modern Library Furniture to provide the shelving.  This furniture was bought using The Cooperative Purchasing Network (TCPN) Contract.

Spokane Public Library Gets Some Shelf Help from BCI Modern Library Furniture

Started in 1891, The Spokane Library located in Spokane, WA had just 300 volumes.  Due to some financial difficulties the library was experiencing in 1894, it was taken over by the city and became The Spokane City Library.  Today after many rebuilds, the current site which is the Downtown building, was completed in 1994.  Five new branches were added and completed by 1998.  BCI Modern Library Furniture was chosen for some recent shelving upgrades and will be used to hold picture books and beginner readers.

The Theodore Roosevelt High School located in Washington, DC is undergoing a major modernization project.   A new enclosed atrium will act as the center of the school campus.  Renovations will also include improved technology, updated classrooms, open spaces, safety and accessibility and the re-opening of the famous 13th Street main entrance.  This $136.1 million renovation will include BCI Modern Library Furniture all in an effort to bring the school into the 21st century.

Arlington VA Public Schools Appoint BCI for New Library

Construction began in March, 2014 on the Discovery Elementary School located in Arlington, VA.  This new school is known as the first ‘Net Zero’ school in Virginia.  The 98,000 square foot school will contain 2,000 solar panels and LED lighting throughout.  A Net Zero school is designed with the idea of buying the electricity and at the end of the month enough electricity should have been generated so that you have a net positive or net zero bill.  There is a one year waiting period before the new school can be assessed by a net zero certifying organization.  BCI was chosen for the new library furnishings and to become part of this first Net Zero school project.  The Discovery Elementary School is scheduled to open September, 2015.
