case studiesProject: Teaneck High School Media Center - Teaneck, NJ Architect: DMR Architects - Hasbrouck Heights, NJ http://www.dmrarchitects.com/ Constructed in the early 1920's, the three-story brick masonry building approximately 228,000 sq ft needed a comprehensive renovation to meet the district's educational goals for the 21st Century. The school's existing educational programs, as well as physical space requirements, were no longer in compliance with the district's educational goals. The primary challenge of this project was the need to develop a phasing plan that would allow comprehensive renovation throughout the school with minimal interruption to school activities. Working in close collaboration with the district and DMR, Longo conducted an extensive space utilization and programming study of the existing library. Based on the result of this study, Longo developed a short-term construction plan which included the complete interior renovation consisting of rearranging existing office walls, new lighting, and carpeting and an entirely new furniture layout. Next Longo began the process of selecting new furniture for the Library. The district and DMR wanted to find the perfect blend of contemporary designs with a flare toward high-tech without giving up any functionality. Longo responded by providing a perfect blend of custom furnishings and standard products. By mixing a variety of manufacturers and materials such as frosted glass, warm maple wood and the high tech look of perforated steel the result was a complete success! Click to expand:
