Going Back on Throwback Thursday with BCI Modern Library Furniture

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

This Throwback Thursday we are showcasing an amazing public library furniture project from a few years back. The Fairfield Public Library, located in Fairfield, CT has had many additions to the original 43,000 square foot library since its construction in 1903. Unfortunately, these additions produced a very irregular flow in the building. With an increasing number of patrons, upgrades to the interior and technology framework were needed.

By combining new custom end panels to some of the existing shelving in the library, the cost was kept well within the budget. A rich selection of both custom and standard furnishings from BCI Modern Library Furniture were selected and created that modernistic look and usability.

Beautiful Libraries are Getting Noticed

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

“There’s so much more to a book than just reading.” – Maurice Sendak

We are all aware that the libraries of today are well beyond books, they serve the community in many other ways. What use to be known as a quiet environment, is now a gathering place. There are now ‘teen spaces’ in libraries as well as meeting rooms for community use. The use of ultra modern designs are widely being incorporated into library buildings making them a unique focal point.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services released a report focusing on the uptick of visitors to libraries when money is spent on building and renovations. As a matter of fact, the report also showed that when money wasn’t being invested, visitation dropped.

Wired, a monthly magazine which is published in both print and online, recently did a feature on “Settle Into 10 of the Most Beautiful Libraries on Earth”. Wired spotlights on how emerging technologies are affecting our economy, politics and culture. This article featured two libraries Dokk1 in Aarhus, Denmark and Stormen Public Library in Bodø, Norway which both included BCI Modern Library Furniture.

WI Technical College Library Gets a Modern Make-Over Using BCI

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

The Waukesha County Technical College located in Pewaukee, WI, is a public college offering two year degrees as well as certificate programs. Recently, the college has completed a renovation project which focused on satisfying the wants and needs of the students by bringing the library into the 21st century. New modern library furniture was used to add to the overall update. The renovation gives the ability for the students to plug in and utilize the tech-integrated features such as creating powerpoint presentations.

BCI Modern Library Furniture was selected to provide Unifach, a magazine display shelving unit. BCI worked directly with Waukesha County Technical College to ensure the product fit into the complete project.

The Unifach can house both current and past issues of magazines and newspapers. Its sleek modern design lends itself to that 21st century feel. The Unifach comes in a multitude of colors and wood tones to fit into any new library setting.

Remembering this Amazing Project on Throwback Thursday with BCI

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

Project: The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering

This Throwback Thursday post goes way, way back to 2007! We teamed up with the architectural group Fuller & D’Angelo P.C. to provide some shelving for the new library.

The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE), located in Stamford, CT, is a college preparatory public magnet high school. The school serves the special interest of students in all facets of technology and the essentials of architecture and engineering. After three years of planning and construction, a new building opened in 2007 with a very futuristic look. The school’s own architecture and engineering students helped in the collaborative effort of the design.

To compliment this innovative building design, the Architect chose BCI Modern Library Furniture to provide the Opal Shelving System. This shelving system offers Opalescent tempered glass end panels‡ with unique perforated steel components ‡for a modern look that fits this new building.

Another CT School Project for BCI Modern Library Furniture

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

John Wallace Middle School, located in Newington, CT which is about 8 miles south of Hartford, is home to students in grades 5-8. The school’s principles are based on the acronym P.R.I.D.E. – Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence creating an environment for student success.

BCI Modern Library Furniture worked with Robert H. Lord Company for some library updates at the middle school.

What’s the first thing you see when you enter a library? The information desk of course! Information desks set the tone for the entire library. The John Wallace Middle School chose BCI’s INFORM Desk Systems (Variety #6) for its library. The stylish design of the BCI INFORM desk system transforms any library setting into a 21st century library. Color choices abound for this system and are designed to suit any library.

Also chosen were BCI’s Ratio-Double Faced Shelving System and Ratio Single-Faced Wall Shelving. This type of shelving offers a modern look and feel, as well as functionality for organization.

BCI Modern Library Furniture Looking Back on this Throwback Thursday!

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

We are throwing it back again! Here’s a project a few years back we did with Montclair State University, located in Montclair, NJ. A new 275,000 square feet academic building was constructed by The SLAM Collaborative architectural group. BCI Modern Library Furniture was chosen to supply the furnishings for the CRC Library of the University’s new building. A customized solution was created by BCI’s team of designers that provided the quality and configuration, while keeping within their budget.

BCI’s 60/30 double-faced shelving system finished in black steel with clean, rich cherry end panels was chosen to accommodate the center’s resource materials.

BCI Modern Library Furniture’s Throwback Thursday

Posted by Tracy Lenok in News

Being it’s Throwback Thursday, we decided to take a look back at some library renovation projects we’ve done over the years. The project we selected was completed at Teaneck High School in Teaneck, NJ. We worked with DMR Architects – http://www.dmrarchitects.com/ from Hasbrouck Heights, NJ to take their Media Center into the 21st Century.

The furniture for this renovation project was purchased through the ESCNJ (Educational Services Commission of New Jersey) , which offers both quality and fair pricing.

The three-story brick building was built in the early 1920’s and is roughly 228,000 square feet. With a growing district, space had become a challenge. In order to tackle this comprehensive renovation, a phasing plan was needed to keep the disruptions to the school activities at a minimum.

While working jointly with both DMR and the Teaneck School District, we conducted an extensive space utilization and programming study of the existing library to assist us in developing a short-term construction plan. Included in the renovation was the rearranging of existing office walls, new lighting, carpeting and a complete new furniture layout.

The district and DMR favored a blend of contemporary designs that were functional, but yet hi-tech. BCI Modern Library Furniture’s vast selection of custom and standard furnishings provided the solution. The materials such as frosted glass, warm maple wood and the hi-tech look of perforated steel, gave this project beautiful results!

BCI Modern Library has an endless amount of standard and custom furnishings that will enhance any new or renovation project. Contact us today for more information on how we can assist you in the design and planning process for your new library – we look forward to speaking with you.
